Joe Viana
Turbo Motors was founded on June 1, 1980 Odendaalsrus Goldfields South Africa. The owner, Jose Sousa Viana, better known as Joe or “Patat” for local people, emigrated in 1956 with his parents and older brother from Portugal to South Africa

Joe did his schooling at Technical High School, Welkom Free State, complete and qualified as a mechanic and later worked as a manager at Sentra Motors Welkom. He and his brother later bought Sentra Motors and put their own stamp on the car sales industry.
- In 1980 Joe sold his shares in Sentra Motors, and started Turbo Tyres in Odendaalsrus on his own. The business was small but rapidly expanded and made a name for itself in the small town Odendaalsrus and surrounding areas. Joe was well known for his honest and competent auto sales. He expanded his services to rethreaded and new tyres. From there Turbo Tyres were established. In 1985, a new portion was added and the tyres business demanded all his attention business was great and the car sales section was closed down.
Turbo Motors petrol station continued to grow irrespective of restricted business hours from the government, soon they expanded from six petrol pumps to twenty two pumps and eleven workers to serve and help clients.
Jolene Viana
Within a very short time Turbo Tyres became known for good prices, excellent service and quality products. In the beginning of the business, Joe sold a variety of tyres. In 1988, Goodyear persuaded him to become a Goodyear dealer, the business were revamped colours and products changed but the personality and friendliness of the company stayed and business is booming
- In 1999, Joe decided to become a Dunlop dealer. For nine years, Turbo and his team were among the top sellers in South Africa.
In 2008 it was again time for change, the economic conditions of South Africa and the Free State mining industry with the rest of the world moved through one of the worst recessions in history to date, Joe decided to break away from Dunlop and imported tyres.
Joe’s motto is . . .
“Best Deals on Wheels”.
For 31 years he has kept his promise to the public, clients from as far as the Cape and Gauteng believe in Turbo Tyre’s services and products.
At age 60, Joe decided to relax a bit and give more attention to his hobby, car racing. Jody and Jolene are now handling most of the day to day affairs of the company although Joe is still the decision maker.

Joe encourages Jody to race in as many oval track races as possible and together the father and son share a hobby that keeps them close and connected.
Turbo Tyres is focused on growth, good service and job creating, providing many workers in the Goldfields with security of income within a quality company from where to serve the public.

The Viana Family loves the people of Odendaalsrus, much have been shared over the past 31 years giving Turbo Tyres a History that is richly embroided with love and great memories.
